windows 8 re-install

i got my self a copy of upgrade win 8 pro way back when it was first was released and installed it on my laptop, after a few months i went back to win 7 so uninstalled it.
now i was thinking of re-installing win 8 pro too see what 8.1 is like. do i have to re-install it back on the laptop i first installed (and then uninstalled ) or can i install it on a old desktop machine i have.

8.1 will be a full download as well as an upgrade, so you can burn an image to disk or create a bootable usb key and run a clean install on the desktop system you have.
