windows 8/rt tablets

Microsoft need to do a LOT more with regards to gaming on WinRT in my opinion. It's not as if they don't have an existing gaming brand.

Actual games in the store for Windows 8/RT. The closest thing we've got to any first party/big franchise presence is Halo: Spartan Assault. No offense to anybody who likes it, but big whoop.

Make a shooter. Make an exclusive Gears of War or Forza game for Windows. Microsoft are in a unique position in this regard when competing with Apple and Google, and yet I've seen little or no evidence of them trying to press this advantage.

I want a galactic civilisation 2 port and other old gull featured games, rather than but down or tablet only POS.

Lots of games just aren't suited to touch screens but 4x games, civilization series, city builders etc, would all be good.

civ 5 has a touchscreen mode, although have fun trying to host a game on a tablet...

I accept the fact that not all games will translate to touch very well, but this just needs to be made clear at the point of purchase. Plugging in a mouse or game controller to get the best experience is no different than attaching a keyboard as and when you need it.

Agree, I've said similar.

There's some massive gaming omissions (Fifa 14, hell, even an FM handheld etc).

They need to do something, we're edging on ~17 months since launch?

I just want the features of the shield on my surface

There is that as well, we have Shield using T4, and it has the game streaming lark.

Steam now has Steam Streaming working (And having used it, VERY impressed)

Why can't MS get something like that into the Surface? I can't imagine 720p game streaming be a real problem, we have baytrail tablet users doing it with their X86 devices (Splashtop etc aren't remotely in the same league for this specific task from my experience)

They're going to have little or no influence over third party games appearing in the store, but that's just tough and outside of their control.

We already know they have a prototype game streaming service. Wouldn't it be nice to have an Xbox game app that streams the back catalogue of 360 titles.

With a handful of Windows exclusives here and there it would certainly give the gaming crowd something to think about when it comes to choosing a tablet. Or laptop or PC for that matter.

Happy bump new year. Can you install or update a normal version of Windows over RT? A friend of work has an older Suface and has been having a few issues, my usual tips and tricks have been a failure because of this backwards OS. Keen to know as a future proposition, if I can upgrade it to something else?

No, completely different CPU type.

Tell it to do a factory reset, you can get a USB image for doing just this.

I still use mine, mainly for light remote desktop use and watching videos on flights.

Ah not an x86 then? Oh well. Another question; the touch screen stopped working but came back to life when she took it home. However it's just stopped working again. We have tried restarting, calibration tool and it's up to date. The touch clearly works but something is stopping it randomly.

They are very underpowered, I disabled every non essential service on mine to make it usable. Including Windows Defender. Windows updates take forever, but do apply them.

PS, that's one heck of a thread-revive :)
