windows 8 search broken?

Hi all,

I think ive broke windows 8 search.
That or i do not know what to do to restore it.

I swipe right hit search and it instantly says this app cannot be searched.
And if i try and search it just opens the top app.

Settings is gone as is files, tried rebooting, how do i restore settings and files to the search?

I only discovered this issue looking for windows update.

Have you installed any 3rd party system tools? Or a start menu replacement utility?

Are you accesing charms/search from the start screen, or from within a metro app that doesn't support search. charms/search/settings are specific to the current app displayed if in one.

Thanks both,

I remembered when i went to bed that night I had uninstalled lots of windows features to save space.

One was windows search! the first post would have reminded me of this.

What you mention is similar to what was happening, with the search feature uninstalled. The search option is still there in the charms bar,
however when you search it searches the first open app. If no apps are open it just searches the first app on the installed list!

Problem solved when i re-enabled the feature thanks all!
