Time for me to eat my hat, they just showed and announced start menu is back with live tile integration. Wasn't clear if this was part if 8.11 or a future update, I'm guessing future as it wasn't in with the 8.11 update segment of Build2014.
And metro apps in windows.

metro apps in windows is old news and i think it's in update1. i am surprised about the start menu though. i guess people grumbling incessantly can make a difference. :p

Doesn't look like it, just watched the update1 overview and when he launches metro apps from taskbar there's only a minimize and a close button

Ultimatly, its a choice users can make, and that's a great thing.
But at least this still includes the drive for Apps on the MS platform.

Tbh, I do like the updates they've done.

It's quite a big difference from the leak I'm running (Which frankly, I wasn't all that fond of, but 8.1 was good)

... Is this real?

Personally I've learnt to live with the tile interface, but I still prefer using a start menu. This seems to be a nice mix between the two. I am glad Microsoft is listening, 8 was fine but felt too contrasting, 8.1 bought many improvements and made the OS more comfortable.

I'll need to see just how customised it can be in order to make a decision, but it sounds like a good step to me.
