Windows 8 update stuck?

Got back from university today, and turned on laptop. Windows says it's busy configuring updates, so I thought to myself, it must've downloaded and installed them last night, and I must've forgot to change the update settings where it doesn't install them automatically (I like to have control of when it updates).

It then gets to 12% and stays stuck on thos for about half an hour. After this, the restart screen appears. I thought finally, it's ready to use. But no, it loads up the configuring update screen again, and once again gets stuck on 12%. So after it goes to the restart process half an hour later, I do a system restore. This allowed me to boot back to Windows, and then I decided to try manually install the updates myself.

But the same thing happens again, after Windows asks to restart after installing the updates, it gets stuck on 12%! So fed up, once it restarts by itself again I booted into my Windows 7 partition and here I am complaining.

Is anyone else having this problem? I checked the update size, and it was pretty big at around ~380mb.

Yup, seems that's the update causing the problem. Tried disabling the services but still didn't work, although Avast seemed pretty persistant by reenabling itself. I'll uninstall it and give the update another go, but right now I need to get on with coursework :(. Thanks for the help everyone :).
