Windows 8 upgrade - installation lost. - Options

I recently upgraded to Windows 8 from windows 7, bad things happened and I've managed to recover to a windows 7 image I had from last week.

I have my windows 8 key from the upgrade purchase but nothing else. Do I have any options other than buying again?

My brother has also done the upgrade so could i copy the install files from his PC?
