Lo everyone

Per the title - is there anything included in Win 8 Pro I'm likely to miss if I buy the basic version?

(went through the wiki comparison list but a lot of it is proprietary jargon that's lost on me)

Cheers guys

home is ie not for network use so much, can still be used in a network, but would make it next to useless if you did etc

Can join a Windows domain? home no pro yes

Encryption features home no, pro yes

Boot from VHD home no, pro yes

pro is a bit better if your networking, if your not, then home your boy

Why not just get the £25 pro upgrade in the next few days and don't worry about the version as you'll have pro anyway.

Because as I understood it you can't upgrade from an OS that isn't already installed on your machine.. I have a few licenses of XP kicking about but on this machine I have Win8 Enterprise (the free trial).

If this is incorrect.. great = )

you can install the upgrade version on a clean hdd

but as long as you know you have a previous os license in your house you'll be fine

So [presumably] I format, stick the upgrade dvd in and it'll prompt me for the old XP license key?
no

win8 upgrade version doesn't ask for a previous license key. it doesn't case if you have a previous license key or not

but I meaning if ever in the future MS ask you so prove you have a previous license key you know you have a xp license in your house.

Difficult to find official information anywhere but I believe Pro supports more RAM as well. Whether you will ever need more RAM than can be supported by the standard edition of Win8, is another matter of course.
