Used start8 here, since I got win8, never had a problem with it

Start Menu 8 is decent and free as well.

Although I don't mind the windows 8 way of doing things I find it works much better on more than one screen ... im also surprised MS have not released this as a configuration option for the windows 8 install ...

same here, not everyone wants or likes the tile screen

Because OEMs would suppress the Start screen by default and completely hobble the WinRT platform taking off.
