windows 8... worth the upgrade?

Very limited on apps just now even on pro final release I am using. I really hope we get some great games and apps on it. If they get it right then it could be very popular with casual users as it will be a desktop version of ios in most users eyes.

There's no point installing it now, your better of waiting for general release.

As to features here's a good overview

But basically you have better cloud/syncing, faster boot, security, refresh/reset feature, metro and its apps.

I'd disagree and say give the Enterprise 90-day trial a go.

It can be a bit marmite, but you need to give yourself quite a bit of time to get used to the changes. A few days to a few weeks would be my advice. A lot of this will vary based on how much you used pinned taskbar icons and the start menu.

On the other hand if you're feeling flush it's only going to be £25 for an online upgrade, so it's not much of a risk if you want to wait until 26/10 when it's released.

But also, it has a better task manager, better file copying, Storage Spaces for pooling hdds, Hyper-V on pro. Overall it's a much slicker experience on the desktop with UEFI mine boots on average in 12s, but as I say it's whether you get on with the changes the new UI brings.

I think overall its worth the upgrade.

There are a few things that frustrate me though:
- i always forget how to shut down the machine
- its awkward to get into an elevated cmd

etc

The apps will come and you will see a stark increase in the quantity and (more importantly) quality between now and Christmas.

If I was sitting on a great Windows 8 app now I'd wait till GA to release it and capitalize on the launch fever.

Mouse to bottom left, right click. Command Prompt (Admin) is in the list.

There is a period of awkwardness as you get used to it. I couldn't recall where System Restore was on XP yesterday because it's been that long since I used it. :o

This might have been answered elsewhere but....

Can I upgrade (for the £25 offer) from a Windows 7 OEM license (purchased from OCUK)?

I also have another PC in the house with an OEM license can that get the same offer?

Thanks

James
