Just a question which will possibly determine if i buy windows 8.

Can i remove the default apps from the metro screen and just add shortcuts to my usual .exe programs to run from it instead?

E.G The IE App i don't want can i link chrome instead? but not the app version

Great!

Afew more.. Only have a 24" monitor atm but im looking at a dual setup. Does it support this? Also how do people pin all there games to there metro screens? I have a crucial m4 ssd so i assume it should be pretty nippy

I wouldn't be upgrading it would be a clean install as always :) Is there anywere i can buy it today? Like download the iso from MS and get emailed a key?

I've upgraded a few machines too, with no problems.

Regarding the dual monitor set up, yes it does support this and generally works well save for a couple of quirks. It makes hitting certain hot corners marginally more difficult, and the Start screen won't stay open i.e. you can't have it permanently on show on one monitor while you're working on something else. I believe they are improving the situation with the Blue update.

I would consider a touch screen monitor personally, if appropriate.

If you set chrome as the default browser then the IE app starts the desktop version and not the metro version (the app icon changes to reflect that) and I believe you can set chrome to run in desktop view or to change to metro view (there isn't any difference except for the lack of the taskbar).

You can also pin programs to the start screen (it's in the right click menu both on desktop mode and in metro mode) and you can remove any of the default apps in the same fashion.
