hi guys, i'm planning to install windows 98 to a 1GB flash drive so i can play an old game (dungeon keeper - the Dos version is bugged).

i'm looking to run it on either my desktop (Q6600, 4GB, GeForce 8800GTX) or my laptop (T5600, 3GB, Intel GMA950) however, i'm concerned about having to install graphics drivers for it to actually run properly. does anyone have any experience at this sort of thing?

alternatively, would installing Windows2000 to a small partition be a better idea?

While it's a good idea virtual machines aren't good for graphic-intensive applications (note: I have no idea if this game falls into this category) and in my experience, aren't really good for anything that requires hardware accelerated graphics.

Providing it runs in Win2000 installing that to a second partition would be your best bet. Installing to a flash drive is a right royal pain in the derriere.

I think Virtualbox has some DX support.

while the game does run just fine in a VM, the mouse goes TOTALLY screwy - jumping to the edge of the screen when it gets to the middle of the screen - unplayable.

will i need to install any drivers if i go for the Win2000 option?

Just had a look at VirtualBox as I was interested in doing this however it requires that Guest Additions be installed. Unfortunately the supported O/S doesn't list Win98.
