Windows 98SE PC Help (New Title)

Well I still play a lot of classic games that are simply not stable with XP so I've brought a copy of Windows 98SE off the net to set up a triple boot. Now I need some help. I've never used Windows 98SE (Went from 95 to XP) so I would like some questions resolved:
1) Does Windows 98SE work with PCI-Express?
2) Where's the best place to find old drivers? I went on the Creative website but no drivers were listed for my Audigy 2ZS. I would also need drivers for:
- NForce 4Ultra chipset
- X850XT PE 256Mb PCI-Express
- Audigy 2ZS
Thanks for any help! :-D

Most of that hardware was made long, long after Windows 98 was consigned to the bargain bin. You probably won't find any specific drivers for it.

Best you can hope for are the Generic drivers included in windows itself, i'd've thought.

My nForce4 Ultra mobo box states not compatible with anything prior to 2k/XP I think.

It may work although there might be issues as no "Official" drivers exist from the manfacturer.

Thinking about it, instead of triple boot you may be better off running Win98 virtualised - with something like VMWare or MS VirtualPC. They both emulate hardware that Windows 98 will have all the drivers for, and I'm sure there are incarnations of both that are free nowadays.

it would cost you ~£50 to build a dedicated win98 box and save a lot of hassle.

Thanks for all the help, I think that is what I'm going to have to do :-(. Might see if I can pick up a cheap 2nd base unit somewhere :p

that's what i did, mainly so that i could play "the longest journey".

Mines Theme Park world *runs off before people laugh*. It's the most addictive game and nothing comes close imo (RCT3, Zoo tycoon). What keeps happening is the game will freeze randomly every now and again and the sound will repeat. Sometimes it "unlocks" itself but othertimes the sound disapears and my whole computer locks up :( . I don't want to damage anything so I'm trying to keep myself from playing it. I've tried every "XP patch" available but nothing comes close to working :(

I've got a classic games box in the making too! Sticking point is the sound card :(
What games will you be playing on it?

EDIT: I'm currently looking around for a second hand system so I might post something in the "wanted" forum.

xwing, tie fighter and a few others i can't remember the names of :) I think they work ok in xp but the sound doesn't.

SUCCESS! I cannot believe it. A friend who lives near by had a spare P3 700Mhz, 128Mb ram system and he has given it to me free of charge. The only problem though is there is no AGP, so I am going to try and find a PCI graphics card good enough for running TPW. Can anyone suggest a good (CHEAP!) PCI card suitable? I was thinking of an FX5200  . Also is it easy to overclock Pentium 3's? I would love to get it to 1Ghz :p

i would have thought a pci gf4mx440 would be a better bet than an fx5200. better performance, cheaper and it's not like you'll be needing pixel shader in theme park world. plus in my experience the mx440's were better overclockers than the fx5200's.

Thanks for the post, I'll ebay for an MX440. Is it possible to overclock P3s? If so how easy? If I could get it to 1Ghz it would be perfect!

you'll be raped on ebay mate. try the members market here. they usually go for ~£10. though the pci version are quite rare i admit. worth a try though.

I cannot find one anywhere. It would have been perfect if it just had AGP :( . It was free though so I suppose I can't be picky :p

I've been looking on various websites to purchase a PCI graphics card but I've just looked at the PSU and seen it is a mere 90Watts  . The power supply I have in this machine is an 'ATX93-3415 Astec Power Supply' specs:
Suitable for minature desktop computer cases. Often used in School RM Research Machines. Dimensions: 100x78x125mm. Input: 200-240v 1.5A Output: 12v 1.5A, 5v 12A, 3.3v 6A, -12v 0.2A, +5V SB 2A. A/C Code 454.

If I wanted to replace this would I look for a micro ATX PSU?
