Behind you... Naked!
I am wondering about this.

Not been hit personally, but a few friends have... They are all of a sudden starting to get hit about their copy of Windows not being legal...

I have had a quick look and found a load of sites saying that its a trojan and some more digging found 2 fixes... Neither of these fixes work!

Anyone know any more on this?

One of my friends says that he has 2 days to register it... What will happen if he does not? - does it do the same as the MS legit one?

What can get rid of it?

A good way of checking if they are actually legit copies is by trying to download a major update (IE7, WMP11, XP SP3) from the official Microsoft website. It'll check whether its genuine or cracked. If its deemed genuine the warnings are most likely a trojan. If the copies are unlicensed check if the computer has a COA somewhere. If so, backup your friends docs and reinstall the o/s using their license key. Ive seen this with a few friends pcs, a friend reformated their pc and installed a pirate copy despite the pc having a license key.

AFAIK they do indeed have legal copies

With one, they did admit to installing a copy even though they have the legal licence, that is something that has always made me giggle, however, Id be lying if I said that I have not done it myself.

Now, that one, I had a quick look at, and I quickly threw on a good crack, and it seemed to get rid of the activation rubbish, but it was also messed up and was unable to do any internet stuff, and even thoguh I clearer it of a hell of a load of Spyware and a few virii, we kind of decided to do a fresh one anyway and put Media Center back on instead of Home, so as far as I cared, that was that.

Since then however, I know about 3 others... I have not done anything myself, but I am going tomorrow morning to have a look at one and the guy is a nice guy, I put the Windows on his PC myself and so I know its a good one, but he is also getting that message too!
