If I bought (for example) Angry Birds on my Windows 8 Phone (say Lumia 920) would I have to pay for them again on my Windows 8 Pro tablet?

They are different apps and different market places.

Wow I thought the metro store was one big store that crossed through to each platform, I thought that was the point in the big push to unify Windows?

Seems stupid that you can buy metro Angry Birds on Windows 8 then still need to buy metro Angry Birds on Windows Phone 8 :confused:

Win 8 and win rt is one store, wp8 is a separate.

It's not totally unified yet, the apps still need some modification to run on each, there's also phone apps are smaller file size and smaller resolution.

It's also similar to how iOS works. One purchase doesn't cover all devices, again due to screen res. for example

Angry birds Star Wars on iPhone is $0.99 where on ipad it's $2.99 and $4.99 on mac
Where wp8 is $0.99 but $4.99 for tablets/laptops/desktops win8 or win rt.

So you cut one version out on windows Eco systems.

However unlike iOS, purchase an app on either desktop or tablet and it can run on both devices.

That's what I thought, if indeed that isn't the case I may just stick with Apple for my phone as it saves buying all the apps again.

I was under the impression the iPhone version of an app was standard definition and all the iPad version was was in HD, and the standard version would work on the iPad, just not look as good.

It will work on the ipad, but you wouldn't use it, it looks utterly horrible.
On apple you pay less if you only have ipad & iPhone.
But if you have iPhone, ipad and Mac, you pay more than w8 as you need three versions, compared to two.

Thanks, kinda makes sense. Doesn't help me much in my decision wether to get an iPhone 5, Nexus 4 or Windows 8 Phone...
