Hi guys, I just bought myself a new laptop HDD and will be upgrading it this weekend; from a 100GB to 250GB. My current 100GB HDD is partitioned into 2 drives, roughly 72GB (Main) and 20GB (Picture e.t.c.)

What free proggy out there would you recommend me to use if I want to copy the entire 100GB into my new HDD? Is there even a free HDD image backup utility out there?

On another note; is there a program that copies all Windows XP settings and programs such as Outlook or even games settings on to a fresh installed HDD - instead of HDD image copying, I might look into just selectively copying settings and documents and have a fresh install of XP/Ubuntu on my new HDD...

Thanks.

Check the manufacturer website of either of your drives.
I know Seagate (Maxtor) have a free utility to do what you want and I'm sure the other manufacturers also will.

IMO a fresh install is better and Windows XP actually has a utility for transfering settings.
Start -> Prograns -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Files and Settings Transfer Wizard

Thanks; my new HDD is Western Digital and I'm just having a browse now:)

As for the files and settings transfer, thanks - totally forgot Windows have that to help; saves me trying to disassociates all jpegs to Photoshop, .avi from WMP e.t.c.

Are there any other third party apps for it too? I don't mind paying for it, provided the price is reasonable, especially for a "1 time use" in such a case...
