I am planning putting a Server together, based on Windows home server 2011 64bit.
Being on a budget i already have from previous builds, 2- 2gb sticks of Corsair Dominator DDR3.
A Corsair TX650 power supply.
Four Western Digital 1.5gb green hard drives.

I was thinking for the case a, BitFenix Prodigy.
The motherboard a, Asus E45M1-I DELUXE AMD Hudson M1 DDR3 Mini ITX Motherboard.
Any thought on this build please, & views on the motherboard, i want to keep the case as quiet as possible & uncluttered, hence the integrated cooler etc on the motherboard.
Also the build has to be as light as possible.
I will upgrade the hard drives to larger capacity, as budget allows.

Have you considered a HP Microserver? Can be had for £120~ after cashback, check the server section for the big thread.

I'm not really an AMD guy but the mbob you have selected should be ok for a server build, certainly better than atom based kit.

If you are going down the self build route, rather than HP Microserver which is great kit, you may want to consider adding a SATA backplane to make drive handling somewhat easier. This Icy kit is good and comes with a fan to keep the drives cool http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-036-BT&tool=3
obviously this won't fit in a Prodigy case.

What do you mean by the build has to be as light as possible?

If i go down the HP microserver route, is there a way, i can automatically save the music files etc, from my main pc, as i put them on it, to the server then play them on my sony tv etc.
I already have a synology, & i find i have to transfer files, from the pc manually to be able to play back on the tv.

The microserver is a computer. Just like the one you intended to get. Whether you can make it serve files or not depends on whether you can make any computer serve files.

Yes, it is possible to automate that. With the desktop proposed and with any of HP's budget servers.

You can run windows on it if you like. My opinion is that this would be a mistake, but people do seem to rely on windows for such things.
