Hi, Just wanna know where I stand on this one:

Me and a couple of mates moved into a flat in the summer and the owners before us had a window cleaner. So after they'd cleaned our windows a few times we phoned the guy up and asked him how much we owed him and told him that we wanted to cancel the service and left the outstanding balance with a neighbour who paid him for us (since we're never in, something the window cleaner complained about too - "if you go into a shop you dont take the stuff and pay later") anyway, we got it sorted and the service was cancelled on the phone.

Now they've been back twice and cleaned our windows. once just now. now I don't want them to knock on the door expecting money in a minute. I'm gonna have to tell him that hes providing a service that we'd cancelled and so we shouldn't have to pay.

Am I right in saying we shouldn't have to pay?

Joe.

If you were crystal clear to him that you didn't want him to clean your windows, then it's not up to you to pay him because he's still doing them.

Politely have a face to face conversation with him, and be clear that his services are not required.

Are you renting this place? if so maybe the landlord has asked them to clean the windows and paying them, you paying them may have just been a bonus for them!

So you watched him wash them and didnt actually tell him?

instead you just let him finish then question it on the internet?

I realised they'd been cleaning afterwards. They don't even do a good job of the windows :p. Anyway, no-ones come a-knocking or left a note through the door so maybe they realised they shouldnt have cleaned our windows? i dont think they cleaned the back windows either so i hope thats the case.

As for the landlord question, We're renting off my flatmates parents and they leave us up to this type of thing.
