Windows bootup time on an SSD

Hi all

Just trying to find out how quick others find windows boots up on an SSD

Im running Windows 7 and from when the windows logo comes it it take roughly 24 seconds to bootup ...windows up and running and no hard drive activity .

Said they are getting 10 second boot up time ....that seems a bit far fetched to me .

Any one else like to share their times ?

From pressing the power button: Win XP Pro SP3 32 bit...

HDD: Power up to Login screen, 46 sec
HDD: Login screen to Desktop 47 sec

SSD: Power up to Login screen, 46 sec
SSD: Login screen to Desktop, 8 sec

The bootup time is so long due to the bios on my IP35 Pro, it takes most of the boot time....
The SSD is using a clean install however has virtually the same software installed as I have a basic build guide I keep to with every clean install on my rig ;)

Im not counting the bios boot up time ...that usually takes a while !! lol
From when windows loading ...to desktop ( able to open programs )

Well crap that's got to be like 10 seconds or less from me. Bios boot included only takes me about 26 seconds, and everything in Vista is usable at that, (I'm not waiting for apps to load in background or anything.)

EDIT: Just restarted. Vista Ultimate mind you, it took 15.62 seconds from win loading to desktop.

god knows how you get 10 second bootup !! is there a secret to that ? lol
I have 5 other hard drives on the system ....would they slow the ssd down ?

done hd tune test and seems to be running at correct speed ...so nothing wrong with drive ....could it be the motherboard or bios not configured right for an ssd ..maybe a bios update will come out in future to use the full speed of an ssd ?

Well it actually took 15.62 seconds from Vista loading to desktop. I really don't know how it's so fast. I did go into the start up configuration and turned some applications to not start with windows. Maybe that helped. For example, I don't have anti-virus installed other than superantispyware and even that does not start with windows. Also I only have 1 other hdd as storage so that also may factor in somewhat.
 
yes prob turn off stuff will help it load faster ...by what i have read on the net , the average for windows 7 to load on an ssd is around 20 - 30 seconds ....so im not too worried about it :)
be nice to speed up the bios loading now !!! lol

btw- What are your qpi volts? I noticed once I OC'd my qpi a bit, everything started to load faster. Of course that is mainly because of my 4ghz OC. When I was at 3.8, I did not need to OC the QPI as much.
 
right found it .....QPI / Vtt voltage - 1.175 (auto)

does that help

also what should sata port 0-3 native mode be set to ? enable or disable
and onboard sata/ide crtl mode set to IDE not AHCI ?

probably down to motherboard and bios that helps certain systems boot up quicker .
I know mine takes a while just to get to the windows loading screen ....heard a few people who have flashed bios with the new beta bios (F8b or something )and they say bios bootup is quicker .
otherwise from loading screen to desktop is around 24 seconds which is way quicker than it was before fitting the ssd :) think it used to take well over a minute to load
 
Do people still care about bootup times? I reboot my system around once a month if that, there's a rather handy sleep button on my keyboard that does the business.
 
yes but these overclocked systems dont like sleep mode...crashes .....overclockers told me to turn off sleep mode .
As im a work all day there is no need to have the pc on .

Only if you have a very unstable overclock.

S3 (sleep, suspend to ram) uses just a few watts and S4 (hibernate, suspend to disk) uses the same as it would if turned off (always some power use if not turned off at the wall).
 
i would rather just turn it off ...lol
i have a laptop that i use most of the time , so not as if i use it everyday ...easier to leave off if you know what i mean :)
