Hi I was wondering if you could help me. It started last night around 8pm. So all of a sudden I got disconnected from the internet. The error I keep getting when I try to use trouble shoot internet settings is "Windows cannot detect this computers proxy settings.
I share a house with housemates we have virgin media 120mb package. I am the only one who is hardwired to the virgin media hub. All the others are wireless. I cannot go wireless as I like to play games online and for some reason I am the only one who cannot get a good wifi signal. The router is downstairs and I live upstairs.
I have hardwired it to a router that I use so all the stuff in my room can use the wifi option besides my two pc's. Those are directly hardwired into the router. It is an Asus RT-AC68U. Let me just say at this point I know nothing about networks and just let the router do everything. And it works for me and I am happy with it. But now I do not know what to do.
I tried resetting the router at first. Then I reset the virgin media hub. Each time the 'windows cannot detect this computer proxy settings' error come up. I then did the setup wizard again on the Asus router and that worked for about 2 mins and then the error came up. Tried swapping the cables around to see if it is the cable. All of my stuff which uses the Asus router on wifi no can connect to the internet whether wi fi or hardwired.
Funnily enough when I connect my macbook to the downstairs router there is a weak wifi signal but not very good and intermittent so that's what I am using now atm. So I googled this error and using an elevated command prompt tried doing both the winsock reset solutions to no avail.
What have I done wrong? Is there a limit on how many gadgets you can run off the router.?
It would;t be so much of a problem if I had decent wifi signal but with everyone else in the house on wifi and my stuff on top I don't think it would be very good but still viable the fact I get the worse wi fi signal in the house just makes matters worse.
This is what I have running off the Asus router
2 pc's both hardwired 1 running windows 10 and the other windows 8.1. Apple TV
On wifi:
2 phones, 1 tablet, tv, av amp, wii u, xbox one, macbook and a ps4.
I am hoping someone can help me and thanks for reading.
