Hey guys.

Have a HDD lying about so i bought a 2.5" caddy for it to use as removable storage. I've connect it up via USB and the pc DING DONGS when it's attached.

The HDD shows up in Device Manager:

And this little man appears:

Which when clicked leads me to:

It even shows up in the BIOS pre-boot. Trouble is, my My Computer screen looks like this:

Why on earth wont it show? Is it because i haven't formatted it? (it's never been used) and if so, how can i format it? I've never had to format a HDD that i can't see, before :/

Any help appreciated. About to throw it out the window.

Does it appear in computer management (control panel/administrator tool)?
If so you should be able to manually assign a drive letter or a folder to mount it on

Yep it needs to be formatted.

Right click My Computer and go to Manage. Then Storage, Disk Management. Find the disk, right click it and format. If necessary, then assign it a drive letter.

Ok so it's all formatted, and active:

But still it's not showing up in My Computer. I can browse to it by typing "E:" into an explorer pane, but it's confusing why it's not showing up.

Any clues?

I had that similar problem, you need to download Tweak UI from Microsoft and enable the drives to be displayed in My Computer (or Explorer) - can't remember what's the option in Tweak UI but you'll see what I mean.
