Windows cd key?

Depends what you mean and what version.
Do you mean used to activate? Or do you mean version is transferable between machines?

W7,8.1 and 10 OEM versions are toed to motherboard and not transferable.
W7,8 & 10 retail and well as w8OEM are transferable between machines.

W10 activation is based on hardware ID, so might require a phone call to activate.

I upgraded from windows 7 to windows 10. Today I am getting a USB with windows 10 ISO so I can format and do a clean install. My brother used this iso already on his. Will that effect any of our PC serial key?.

Are you sure about this? I find informatiin about this confusing. Ive just build a new computer taking out only 2 hard drives with my media on it and ny psu. When I installed windows 10 I reused the windows 8 retail key I had before.

My new machine has acticated fine. I plugged in my old hard drive with windows 10 on it for 30 min while I copied some stuff. I checked if that was still activated.... it was

When I formatted in past I use my windows 7 dvd then updated to windows 10. Today for first time ever I used USB and ISO to format and install windows 10 for a clean install. Be for anything it asked me for serial key so used the key what was activated already from windows 7. It worked. Which I was getting abit nervous about incase it didn't.

Cant believe windows 10 format and install plus updates. 20 mins all together. Using DVD it was 15 mins to format and about 7 hour to install all updates. Using ISO from USB also my desktop seems a lot smoother. When I use to move a web page or steam etc it use like miss and skip pixels of the screen. Now it smooth.

Just installing Elite Dangerous. Hopefully this was the cause of my PC been slow all time that it was my dvd been bad and not installing windows properly.

You might no from past topics that been having problems with jaggy edges in games what look like ant aliasing not working when stood still but when moving the camera the edges be smooth. Also got a lot of shimmering like on fences etc. Hopefully this fixed it. It has the desk top and turns on a lot faster.

As glaucus stated at the end windows 10 activation is more based on hardware ID which is more based on all the components then just the motherboard so as long as that ID doesn't change drastically (and if I remember correctly, people have swapped motherboards and their windows 10 install has remained active) then the OS will activate and remain active (it could be a bug in the activation system, but I'm not an expert on these things nor am I an expert on the windows 10 activation system).
