Windows Defender - Any good?

Apologies if this has been asked before but am unable to search currently.

Is Windows defender any good? I run Ad-aware SE every now and then, would turning windows defender on help?

The realtime scanner eats resources. The scans I've ran in the past have found nothing. It's free so try it.

Not had any spyware since starting to use vista last nov. Not sure if thats due to defender or vista but still I think its good. As said just try it

just turn off real-time file scanning, it hurts performance (like any resident av scanner)
