Does anyone know what Windows Defender is?

It is coming up with an error each time the computer starts and will not initialize when I try and run it manually from the Computer Manager MMC.

It's an anti spyware app made by Microsoft, you probably have the old version, in order to remove the error you need to upgrade... http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx

ThanksQ That's gotten rid of the damned thing. I'm still having problems but it wouldn't be Microsoft if it weren't

support has been stooped for defender last version was DEC 18 06 and has now been integrated into One Care.
But got rid of software explorer in the process which was a nifty tool
