In Windows 10, if Windows Defender is showing as Real-time protection and every other aspect is greyed out but showing on, does this mean that Defender is actually disabled or is it on and cannot be changed?

Someone has installed Bullguard AV and I am trying to ensure it is not running two anti-virus programs.

If it's greyed out then it's disabled. As soon as you install another AV then Defender automatically disables itself.
