Hello

I am trying to reinstall my windows on an XP Home Edition HP and am using a bootable CD for it. I know how to do it and I know how to change the boot settings. I do it a million times a year at work. This time I am experiencing bad problems.

First when I tried to boot it after changing the boot priority I have been instruced to to press any key to boot from CD. So far so good. When I did so nothing happned. Just sat there on that screen nothing happening.

Secondly I thought it could be the CD itself. I tried a different bootable CD and that did the same thing.

Finally I tried changing the CD drive - Nothing.

Also I get a message saying that there is a disc drive error.

Thanks

i see you tried another drive but have you tried another cable?

also, a full reset of the bios might be worth a try. i've had my mobo play silly buggers in the past not recognising my drive on startup.

Onto it! I'll tell you what happens in 10 mins.

EDIT - I did all that - Nothing however I just reset the CMOS and now...it gets to the point of "Instercting you Hardware configuration" and reboots! Any help now?

EDIT AGAIN!!!!

Now that it randomly stopped doing that now when the setup loads I get this message. This is when the screen is blue before the formating and installation.

"File \i386\ntkrnlmp.exe could not be loaded. the error code is 7. Setup cannot continue. Press any key to reboot."

EDIT

Don't worry about it now! I just bypassed that stage by pressing F7. It all works now!
