okay so from my other thread and a long headache of trying many options to get windows back on my dell 11 3162 i have had to resort to linux.

no matter what usb drive i tried and using a 32bit version or a 64bit version like it came with nothing worked, i even downloaded and tried the dell recovery option, but because i completely wiped the drive obviously there was nothing to recover and took to 66% to realize that lol and no matter what route i took in command prompt i could not get the emmc drive to accept installation.

now ive got ubuntu installed and leaving much more storage space i might keep the laptop if i can use it how i want, but i am interested to know why on earth windows wont work?

You probably set USB stick to use Legacy BIOS and FAT32 file system.

Found someone had same issue with Windows 10 cannot installed on Dell Inspiron 11 3162 and found solution to install Windows 10:

You can download Rufus USB tool from site below.

Thanks for reply.

I already use rufus, I did have to downloaded a latest version when it came putting Linux on the usb drive, but I have tried legacy, ufi, even done fat32 and ntfs and either they read or they don’t, the one flash drive I have with win 10 on is what I made awhile back and what I use mostly, but I tried a 32bit version also.

If I do get to the installation part, when it comes to disk options, the Emmc will be the only one listed, but until I did cmd stuff, I couldn’t even format it in the installation bit and despite it started to say ‘primary’, I kept getting the error that it can’t install to it, so the fact I can get windows installation to run it isn’t how I setup the usb drive, something hardware wise on the laptop is stopping me, I even did the whole GPT stuff aswell.

I went straight for Ubuntu 18.04 64bit and that is what installed without issue and I didn’t do anything particular with the usb drive either when setting it up in rufus.

Thanks for that.

I have just thought about it, not that I know it would work, but because if the small drive I purchased a 32gb sd card which at the time I copied the windows.old folder to it, hopefully all of it along with whatever windows 10 updates that left me in this mess, so I don’t know if connecting that will allow dell recovery till to discover it because it’s no a main or bootable drive?
