while downloading a gam or whatever from the windows store or on my Xbox I get download speeds of up to 3-6mb/s but yet on my steam account it sits at a steady 1.1 mb/s and that’s the highes it goes I’ve phones my ISP and they say that’s just the speed I have but how can I be so different I’ve logged into m router and changed through the channels but that doesn’t seem to make a difference

Where are you based?
What speed do you get on speedtest.net ?
How are you connected to your router?
What country is your Steam set to download from?
Have you set a download limit in Steam?

I’m based in inverurie, Aberdeenshire. I’m not at Home at the moment so I can’t check my speed test but I am connected to my router via Ethernet cable (does a dear Ethernet cable really make a difference?) I have removed my steam download limit and it is set to uk (London) I think I is. Just whichever was closest.

Have you tried changing the Steam download location in the settings? I remember my brother commenting the Manchester server offering better download speeds for him compared to the London server.

Yeah the most I can get is 1.1mb/s maybe my area just think it’s strange there’s such a big difference from downloading from the windows store

Won’t harm to give it a try. I can give it a go once I’m home and see if that helps.
A new router wouldn’t make a difference would it? I just have a standard sky router

So maybe My steam could be at MB/s and my windows store and Xbox could be Mb/s making I look a lot faster than it actually is

Ok well that’s something else I can have a look into and I’ll get back
And if it is my internet will be 1.1MB/s

Steam displays kbps and then MBps. My 45Mbps connection shows 5-6MB when downloading through it.

What is the connection speed shown in your router? If it’s around 10Mbps (probably shown as 10,000), Steam is maxing out your connection.

Yeah usualy if my steam is downloading all phones and sky boxes etc need to come off the WiFi
