Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone had been able to get Windows DVD Maker (Windows 7) to work with MP4 files?

I've tried various different codec packs, CCCP, K-Lite etc... and they don't make any difference.

Ideally, I don't want to have to convert the files, however if I do have to convert to something like AVI, whats the best converter people have come across, I've tried Handbrake, however that only seems to output .mkv.

Cheers

Have you tried the 2012 version of windows movie maker as I know that version does work with MP4 files (although it could be a codec issue and most likely doesn't play well with external codec packs) since I've been able to import MP4 files put out by OBS into movie maker (although I don't know why anyone uses that unstable mess).

Part of my response would be relevant since it's likely that it doesn't work with external codec packs, and you can use something like all to AVI (if its still available) to convert the files (although you could just go YOLO and change the file extension to see if it takes, but do it on a copy of it just so you don't trash the file if it doesn't work)

However, depending on what it is being played on it might work with just having the files on a disc since most blu-ray players should be able to read from MP4 container files as long as it has been encoded correctly, but if you want to do make a standard DVD then there might be other options that would have more features and support more container and codec formats (you might be able to do it on a trial version of paid software).
