Just about to install win7 .. doing a clean install (well, I've given Vista a miss so upgrade from XP isn't an option I believe!).

Is it worth considering using windows easy transfer to move settings etc to the new machine (yes, I know I have to reinstall the programs etc) or does this start to nullify the benefits of doing a clean install?

Honestly I would go for a fresh clean install.

Never used Windows Easy Transfer though, I always use Acronis.

I'm going through the process of saving my "old PC" data at the moment. I'll probably be fairly selective in what I restore and in particular I think I won't import the saved registry files.

Anyway, to some extent this is a dry run for when I upgrade my kids PC as there will be much moaning and complaining if I don't transfer all their saved game files etc (not that they ever seem to reload them!)
