Hey all,

Recently I have been experiencing annoying crashes. I am doing normal desktopy stuff and i will get a "windows explorer crashed and needs to restart". This happened quite badly one time, and it locked up completely. A few times that I have restarted windows explorer, a lot of services /drivers have not loaded (audio and CCC options).

During boot, my C: (SSD) was scanned for whatever it scans for, and it found and fixed some errors. But in windows my Chrome settings had been reset and my game saves corrupted.

Sometimes Chrome crashes too as soon as I open it.

The las time this happened, ATI Host Controller (?) crashed as well as explorer.

What is the likely culprit?

thanks for the reply, How do I get to event viewer? I have also noticed that explorer is using 25% of my cpu when on my desktop doing nothing and my CPU fan is spinning up.

If you right click on 'Computer', select 'Manage' followed by expanding 'Event Viewer' then 'Windows Logs'.

Under the Application or systems logs, you should get Error or Warning around the time the crash/shutdown happened.

Could be a corrupt Windows install, problem with your drive or RAM. I had a similar issue a few years back and discovered my RAM was faulty having run Memtest. Might be a good starting point.

I also get a werfault error when I try to shut the computer down, saying data at location x could not be written to memory. I've googled this error and it is to do with software conflicts? Does anyone know anything about werfault?
