I've just re-installed Win 8.1 but my Synology NAS is not showing up in Windows Explorer. My PC & NAS are both on the same workgroup and I can access the NAS if I type it's name into the explorer bar. However, it doesn't show up in the left hand pane under Network. It shows under "Other Devices" and that's all.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

PC and NAS on same workgroup?

Taken from another forum:-

Change the workgroup name on the NAS and then change the computer's wourkgroup to the same as the NAS's. Change the workgroup of other computers on the network accordingly.

Or

In the control panel (on the disk station) click on Win/Mac/NFS, then select "Enable Local Master Browser".

Then, do this:

1. Shutdown all Windows PCs on your LAN.
2. Leave the disk station running.
3. When all the Windows PCs have completely shut down, start them one by one.

As long as the disk station is running (and there is no master browser running), it should accept the master browser role.

Or

Go to control panel in Windows 7 and select "Networking and Sharing Center." Then select "Change Advanced Sharing Settings" in the upper left. Network Discovery should be ON. If it is already ON turn it OFF and close out. Go back and toggle it back ON.

Or

I can't find my Diskstation using the Synology Assistant UNLESS I turn off wireless.

So I'll usually have it off, for 10 seconds so I can locate the DS then turn it back on.
