Windows file missing Problem

Hi, All

Everytime I boot up my machine I get a scvhost.exe file missing error, I have tried searching my windows disk but cannot find the file so I can replace it.

Please can any one give me some help :confused:

Have you recently had a virus? ....Or do you have one now!

I cant remember what virus it was, but i had one recently which caused an svchost.exe popup on startup.

Is it something like Recycler\svchost.exe - Its an entry in your registry pointing to the file.

I'll have a look for the fix i used and back to ya.

Yes, the pop up said c:\windows\system32\scvhost.exe
is missing & always said somthing about a registry entry.

If it says sCvhost.exe then it is/was a virus.
Triple check the spelling of the file mentioned in the message.
 
Hi, yes it is spelled like sCvhost.exe can you tell what virus it is as my my virus scan does not pick it up. I am am using Nortons.

I used nod32, but still could not locate the virus. What else can I do.

It sounds more likely that you had a virus which opened the scvhost.exe file from that location. But now you have removed the virus, it cannot find it.

Run regedit and search for

c:\windows\system32\scvhost.exe AND/OR scvhost.exe

And delete them --> BACK UP YOUR REGISTRY FIRST!
