right my firewall is currently turned off so when i say turn on it asks me if i want to enable windows Windows Firewall / Internet Connection Serivice. I click yes and then it says windows cannot start the windows firewall and internet connection service. Whats that all about :|

When you say your firewall is currently turned off. Why firewall is it?
Are you on the main computer. The computer that the connection goes to and is then sharing it off to another computer?

im connecting to a wireless router first , i think its firewall is turned on. Does that make me 'safe' then ?. I just find it odd that windows wont let me turn the dam thing on :| its the standard windows one i want to turn on btw

Well in theory...if your router has a firewall built in. And you set it up right. Forwarding certain ports to what ever computer you want them and make sure you are doing this right.

Then yes in theory you can have a hardware firewall and then you don't have to have a software firewall enabled on your computer.
