windows firewall

I have just uninstalled zone alarm because I dont like it.

when i try to enable windows firewall i am getting the error "due to unidentified problem windows cannot open firewall settings" help

this is when I click firewall from the control panel

I have also done a full reboot.

Do you know how to use the registry?


Copy this into a new notepad window, and save as a .reg file.

Anything you like, it's not important.

To keep it uncomplicated make it FirewallFix.reg or something, up to you though

What do you mean it wont let you?
What error are you getting? Is it a security warning or something?

The other option is to get a hold of a windows SP2 install disc and repair it that way.

I'd keep trying with the registry file though.
Let us know what the exact error you are getting when you try and run it.
Also try right clicking on it and selecting "merge".

Or try this if you are really stuck with the registry file.

Click Start > Run
Enter the following into the box

rundll32 setupapi,InstallHinfSection Ndi-Steelhead 132 %windir%\inf\netrass.inf

Reboot
Click Start > Run
Type "cmd" press enter
Type the following into the dos window
"NETSH FIREWALL RESET"


Then make sure the service is enabled

I would suggest finding another firewall anyways, the windows firewall is not enough to keep you safe from all threats as it protects outbound traffic.

A decent, up to date, low resource hogging antivirus program like NOD32 solves that issue.

Antivirus program + Windows Firewall = fine and dandy, unless you're really paranoid.
