Not sure where to post it since its relevant to consoles and PCs. Anywho.

Is it possible to sign in with your XBox Live details onto windows for games live? Or are they two separate systems?

Its just that I dont want to generate unnecessary login details.
TIA :)

It is, just use the same email. It'll download your profile - just kicked it up on DoW2, it took my gamer score from Xbox and I can look at the games/achievements already on my profile.

Yep it works the same really.

MS want LIVE the same regardless of if the platform is PC or 360 & are trying to unify it all so that in future its seamless.

New games for windows live titles from now onwards will also have some additional features like you only need to register your game once against your gamertag (this is optional & depends on whether or not the publisher wants to implement it) and it will remember this so you can play it on any PC with the game installed with no install or activation limits whatsoever as the game is registered to your gamertag. MS have another new feature called cloud saves which will mean you can save all config settings & save game progress to the LIVE servers so you can logon onto any PC anywhere and play the same game as long as you use your gamertag it will be fine.

Section8 is the first GFWL game to use some of these features and came out in the US yesterday and here this coming Friday.

Ok thanks AWPC!

By the way, when you say play the game on any PC with the game since it is linked to your gamertag, presumably this means you must be online to activate this feature as otherwise it sounds like potentially a problem with people abusing this feature by using 1 XB/GFW login to play on more than one machine?

There's a part of me that hates the rest for saying it, buit I kinda hope they put forward a downloading platform too, just for the increase in available range. Plus with a serious competitor on the market, both Steam & GFWL will have to sort out a decent ****ing interface.

Yeah you get a box up onscreen which asks you beforehand to register the game to your gamertag only and asks you to enter your serial number then if you say yes to remembering this it will always be registered to your gamertag so the only way someone can play is if you give them your gamertag credentials. If you do not agree to that then you cannot use the cloud save features or roam to another PC but you can however install the game elsewhere as many times as you like there are not limits but when you find that you want to use LIVE then it will ask you to enter the serial number until you agree to have it linked to your gamertag. Then and only then can you use all the new features like the cloud saves etc etc. However, for most of LIVE anyway you need to be online otherwise some achievements will not work at all so I should imagine most gamers will want to do this anyway. This is the only DRM most new PC games on GFWL will have as well there will be no disc checks or activation limits anymore just this 1 time only linking to your gamertag (which is optional anyway). This is all down to the game publisher as well BTW if they chose to not use this feature then it may well have the same online & diskcheck securom DRM used right now.

MS are hoping this will help reduce PC piracy by getting publishers to implement gameplay modes & services which use LIVE similar to 360 so that you want to be connected with a legitimate copy to get the full functionality. LIVE has been totally free on PC for 15 months now so no need for any Gold subscription fees either as its unlikey to ever go back as few PC gamers would pay for it (quite right!!).

Next Friday the following 3 PC's games all come out the same day and all 3 will have some if not all of these new GFWL features:

Resident Evil5: LIVE Achievements, LIVE co-op play, future DLC

Batman: AA: LIVE Achievements, future DLC

Red Faction Guerilla: LIVE Achievements, LIVE MP, All 360 DLC is also included in the PC version free of charge already.

Then in October Star Wars The Clone Wars also comes to GFWL with Achievements plus there are rumoured to be another 3-4 GFWL titles (Star Wars The Force Unleashed Sith Edition is under consideration right now) as well this year so its growing rapidly now.

Its already a decent interface and has been for ages. You can also buy DLC direct from your GFWL games (which support DLC) for 9 months now and recent games like SF4 & Battlestations Pacific have plenty of DLC right now on the GFWL marketplace (as does Fallout3) which you can access by just hitting your LIVE Guide button ingame to see whats available then you can buy instantly and it downloads very quickly as well. Just make sure you have the latest client installed below sign in with your gamertag and your good to go.

Thanks again AWPC!
Presumably (say for SF4) if I bought the DLC for the XBox version for Guiles alternative costume, I wouldnt get it for the PC version (i.e. separate purchase) ?

Your correct 360 & PC DLC is not shareable neither are any game add-ons so you must make sure you buy it for the correct platform which on PC means either going to the GFWL marketplace or buying it ingame. Some who could not read the onscreen instructions & warnings ;) have made the mistake of buying 360 DLC for their PC (from their 360 ) and then finding out the hard way its not refundable :(
