I've had it when installing windows onto a PC which has a RAID controller or a strange SATA controller. To get rid of it, try specifying the drivers in the windows setup screen (bit where it says to press F6 to install drivers).

You might find your dodgy copy of XP either has the drivers embedded into it or could possibly be SP2, which has more drivers in it.

Ok i grabed the lastest raid/sata drivers from abit (abit is7) and stil no luck also it a maxtor ide drive so cant see why it would need raid/sata drivers.

If it was a sata problem i would not be able to find the drive i can.It freeze's out after all the files are copyed and it reboots to start the install full meaning inputing time zone code etc.As i said its abit IS7 a maxtor 160.The new copy is windows porfessional version 2002 sp2 .Any help would be GREAT.Tryed the same drive and windows on another pc and install went fine.Which does lead me to beleave its a driver problem.Just everything else does not pft.
