Hi all, has anybody used the MS Windows Get Genuine agreement for an OS upgrade on any of their machines?

Just trying to suss out how it all works? Is it just for machines that have a non-legit copy of Windows on, or can it be used on normal machines?

I've got a laptop here with a legit Win XP Home on it, but would ideally like to get Win 7 Pro 64bit on it and I have the option to buy the get genuine version but unsure of how it works?

Because I work for a charity and we get software for very cheap and one of the options for buying MS products is the either buy a Windows 7 Pro upgrade, or buy the Win 7 Pro (Get Genuine) - the get genuine version being half the price of the upgrade.

Hence why I am seeing if I could purchase this version.

So basically it would be worth me putting a pirate version on the laptop then getting the Get Genuine version for half the price?

These kits aren't openly available to everyone I think.

edit:

actually looking online they are available, but more expensive than standard oem products

A couple of my clients are charities and get their software from here. Its buttons compared to normal pricing.

Yeh thats the site we go through too. I know its only a few quid between them but £8 for the Win 7 upgrade, or £4 for the get genuine version - thought it was worth finding out!
