Hi guys

This is normally just at random it will be fine for a few days then once in a while when i first boot up i get past the bios flash screen it goes to starting windows then it will sit there for ever

I have to do a hard reset and 9 times out of 10 it will boot normaly after that.

I have 1st boot to hard drive and every other boot option after that is disabled.

Spec in sig all drivers are upto date.

Anyone know what could be causing this?

have you checked to see if there are any relevant events logged in the windows event log (run eventvwr)?

Also, when it hangs, have you tried booting into safe mode next time, in case it hangs again?

Do you have any USB devices attached to your PC? I had a similar issue when a USB hard drive was attached that same screen would hang for a minute or so. Since unplugging it goes straight to the Windows load animation.

A lot of time saved waiting considering I only used that hard drive once in a blue moon.

Related to the USB thing, my old rig used to crash sometimes if I had my USB keyboard plugged in. Basically don't just look at the conventional stuff like hard drives, you need to think a little outside the box with problems like this

This pc is overclocked by OcUK themselves as thats where i got this rig pre-built from.

When this started i did have a extenral HDD conected via USB 24/7 so the first thing i done was before a shut down i disconted it And it still does it from time to time.

When it happens it gets past the Bios flash screen soon after the pc Powers down restarts itself gets to windoows loading and thats it.

Only happens now and again thats what i cant make out, It started fine this morning without a prob.

You're not the only one; Mine sometimes does that too. Just started happen randomly and cant pin it down and nothing in event viewer also. Only happens once in a while though.

Sounds to me like a power supply issue, not enough power for the odd boot. Does it only do it from a cold (completely powered down for a few hours) state?

Mostly from a cold boot - Well mine is anyway. Typically in the morning... Oh and im using a CM Silent 850W PSU. Sorry to hijack thread OP :)

If your spec is the one in your sig then your power supply should technically be plenty big enough. It might be worth using a PSU tester, if you can get one, to check whether the rails are actually working properly and delivering their rated voltage... but if it is stable once booted I can't see that there is likely to be a problem with that.
