Windows/Hard Drive Problems

Hi.

I've just had another hard drive fail on me :( (the one WD sent after my last drive failed a month or so ago).

I have another exact same WD in the computer that I use for backups, but for some reason it won't show during the Windows installation. I've tried using different SATA cables and different jumper settings, but it still won't show.

I can see the drive in the BIOS and if I search for drivers during the install I can actually see the drive in the File Directory and browse all the folders on the drive. But it still won't show up on the installation screen.

Anybody got any ideas why it won't show during the installation but its fine in the BIOS and I can see it when searching for drivers?

Edit: Ended up writing the whole drive with zeros as I thought I'd have to RMA it. Gave it one last try after doing that and it showed up and let me install. :) Still need to return the new drive though which is a pain.

Gigabyte DS3. Not sure on the controller, I've tried changing the options in the BIOS to IDE and RAID modes but neither work. But the failed drive shows up fine in IDE mode, Windows just says it can't install to it, because it will fail soon.

Install WD Diagnostic on another pc and connect your drive there and run extended diagnostic and just follow the instruction after the test, if it was able to fix your drive then try installing windows again but if windows complain again better RMA it now.
