I'm using Windows 10 and recently have started getting a Windows hardware remove / device disconnect sound message which causes games to lock my control for a split second.
I hear the sound (heard in Control panel > sound > sounds ' Device Disconnect' as if a device is being unplugged from my machine.

It's highly anoying trying to track down what this is and have unplugged all device I dont need and disabled things like un-used bluetooth and NICs.
It can happen 2 or 3 times in a minute, or not at all for an hour or once an hour.

I've updated BIOS, updated chipset drivers, reverted GPU drivers. Microsoft Edge Webview2 Runtime keep reinstalling. Mozilla Firefox is my main browser.

Just now, it happened and have lost the cursor on this OcUK tab - edit. I closed out of Mozilla and have the cursor back. I've been using Mozilla for year so doubt it's that

I wonder if event viewer mite give you an indication on what's going on.

Thanks. My power profile was on high performance but for some reason USB suspend was set to enabled. I've disabled that, lets hope its that.

Nothing in event viewer after I get a disconnet sound

Well, I thought power management usb suspend would have done it but nope. Another couple of disconnect noises playing Warzone.

I have this in application logs - event ID 16394

This event is generated when a logon session is created. It is generated on the computer that was accessed.

The subject fields indicate the account on the local system which requested the logon. This is most commonly a service such as the Server service, or a local process such as Winlogon.exe or Services.exe.

The logon type field indicates the kind of logon that occurred. The most common types are 2 (interactive) and 3 (network).

The New Logon fields indicate the account for whom the new logon was created, i.e. the account that was logged on.

The network fields indicate where a remote logon request originated. Workstation name is not always available and may be left blank in some cases.

The impersonation level field indicates the extent to which a process in the logon session can impersonate.

The authentication information fields provide detailed information about this specific logon request.
- Logon GUID is a unique identifier that can be used to correlate this event with a KDC event.
- Transited services indicate which intermediate services have participated in this logon request.
- Package name indicates which sub-protocol was used among the NTLM protocols.
- Key length indicates the length of the generated session key. This will be 0 if no session key was requested.

What devices are you using? Have you changed the USB configuration at all?

I wonder if it is possible that a device on the same hub is drawing too much power and causing the port to cut out, like an external drive is powering up and stealing all the power from the other device.

If so, try having the devices on separate hubs, changing them from the rear USB to front USB if necessary, so that you only have one device connected per pair.

Dont think ive changed any USB config other than disconnecting devices to troubleshoot this.

No hubs, just my MSI Meg unify X570 motherboard

USB devices are a Logitech mouse, Sound BlasterX G6 external DAC. No other USB devices are connected

Had similar not long ago
Though windows 11 not 10
Think mine was a windows update caused it in the end
Believe I used some free tools from nirsoft
To investigate it
One of them lists every usb device
And tells you if it disconnects/reconnects
And at what time/date

Thanks, i seem to remember the name nirsoft so could have used it or sone other software they have before.

I removed a win 10 patch for usb drivers on a (bluetooth) printer.
Not sure why that needs usb drivers, its never been connected via usb!

I downloaded the whole nirsoft tool thing
But you may be able to pick individual tools
I think the usb one may be
Called usbdeview

I installed that yesterday and think i've tracked it down.

After an update KB5027122 - https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb...ion-22h2-53ac755a-a4d5-474f-bc0d-db7af35bd4ce
Something appears in the USB list called MYSTIC LIGHT - Mystic Light RGB Gaming PC - MSI.
It appears as a USB device for some reason, disconnected then appears as MYSTIC LIGHT. Uninstalling that KB fixed it but it automaticaly downloads and installes again so i've uninstalled the USB device related to that MYSTIC LIGHT that appeared.
Uninstalling it doesnt work, it comes back. It came back, appeared as MYSTIC LIGHT then disconnected.

Its this little **** bag. - now disabled

wow, im sort of glad - not just me! :D
I expect a bug it's the dog*** MSI drivers. Tempted to log a ticket with MSI who have been good in the past and quite fast to respond.

I also found this which specifically references 'A02019111101', 'MYSTIC LIGHT' and 'MEG X570 UNIFY'

Should say mine is totally different board
So not just buggy msi software
Asus armoury crate is probably even buggier
Love my asus crosshair viii extreme x570 board
But detest armoury crate
But I need it just to control the motherboard oled display
Definitely some very useful little tools in nirsoft though

It can get worse though lol
Microsoft is experimenting with rgb control
In windows 11 previews
Nothings as buggy as windows

RGB is annoying IMO. Would rather just turn it all off completely and no software to control it.
I dont even like the rainbox flashing light on my MSI Suprim x 3090 ti... but you have to install software to turn it off!

I've logged a web ticket with MSI. Lets see what they say

mine actually seems to be related to the AMD adrenaline software, whenever you start a game it outs the pc into "Game" mode and turns some stuff off, my sound happens every time I launch a game. didn't put two and two together untill I started looking into it.

My motherboard has similar idea
Asus gamefirst
Shuts down stuff it deems necessary
When you open a game
But when it happened to me before
Didn't matter if I was just on desktop or browsing etc
Still that annoying hardware disconnects sound

Going into games its fine.
Then 10 or 15 mins into a game i got a disconnect then another a few mins later or not at all. When i heard the disconnect sound my mouse and keyboard temporarily froze for a second - highly annoying playing Warzone 2

Well, thats ****ed on my bonfire. Warzone 2, three more disconnects
Everything in USBDevview that was not connected and registered today, i've uninstalled.

@Mcnumpty2323 I think you're right about this...
Shuts down stuff it deems necessary
When you open a game

What a hassle. Please just leave everything running and ill power my pc off with the button!

Hmmm, could be G400 mouse related or one of my USB ports has magically stopped working (or is not working properly)

The G400 mouse disconnected, I heard the noise and it reconnected at 10:08

I wonder if a Windows update or chipset update shafted up one of the USB hub controllers that my G400 mouse is conneted to. I've switched it to a different port for now.

Yep, its my mouse. Specifically the cable connectivity from the top part of the mouse is loose so causes the random disconnects - If I wiggle the wire a bit, it disconnects! Time for a new mouse unfortunately as the G400 has been great
