Windows has lost my DVD burner

Ok guys,

In a bit of a pickle. I can't seem to use my DVD burner or my new Blu Ray Player (Blu Ray Player is brand new). They're seen in Windows System Device Manager but both have yellow triangles next to them.

i've not had any problems till recently when they just vanished!

Tried to update all drivers and everything is up to date. Really at a loss other than re-installing windows!

Looks like Windows 8? Have you tried removing both devices and restarting your PC and letting Windows do its thing?

Just tried that, no joy! still come up the same! :O

Strange. Have you googled to see if it's a known issue between your device and Windows 8?

Could you try plugging drive into a different port on mobo?

tried both a while ago. might try some more googling though. THought OcUK would be able to help me!

Have you got Itunes installed?

Try another SATA Data port maybe?

Edit: Search for "Fix problems with devices" and run that.

They're both terrible programs that can play havoc with your optical drives.


You may need to do the 'upper filters fix'

I do have iTunes installed, however, had no problems in the past.

I've tried plugging the drive into a different header on the Motherboard. I've also confirmed that it must be a windows thing as the brand new Blu Ray player doesn't work either!?

Try booting from a working CD.

If that works, it rules out the drive being at fault.

Then try the upper filters fix. I think MS have their own 'fix it' tool for it too.
