I have received an invite from MS to participate in the beta testing for the above software.

Sorry for my lack of knowledge here, but not sure if this is something I would benefit from. Does the home server have media centre on it, or like the name suggests just a for server installation. Is it based on Vista?

look in this forum for the other thread, there's some screenshots

basically its a home file server for noobs, its based on 2003 with a bit of a vista feel to it

does work well, and you can manage backups from it, it can also monitor the computers connected to it through security centre, i just got a warning becuase i always disable all security centre warnings etc

great if you don't know how to share files anyway and i'm sure it'll sell well, but for me i def don't need it, since i manage acronis backups myself and filesharing is easy once you know how!

-edit, just read your post again, no it doesn't have media centre on it, its designed to be a server with no screen or kb connected to it as its manageable via computers connected to it -it does have a normal desktop though

Cool thx for the info, I am waiting for Norton Ghost to be available on Vista, so maybe this is not for me :)

If anyone wants a key in trust, who can make use of this software please email me :)

Just because it says "Server" and is meant to be run in a standalone environment doesn't mean it has to ;)

I have Beta 2 setup and installed with a Hauppauge Nova-T Digital Freeview card (latest drivers on website work). Then I followed this guide:

http://technonotice6.googlepages.com/streaming.html

Worked a treat :)

does it have media centre on it as well then? I like the idea of the link above. I have my base pc which is connected to my tv to be able to then view tv streamed onto my wireless laptop. Is this possible as my Hauppauge is fed a sky connection?

No it doesn't have media centre, as Home Server is built upon the Windows Server 2003 code-base.

Not sure about using the Hauppauge with a sky connection, might be worth dropping the guy an email. :)
