Hey guys.

Well, I've got installed Windows Home Server on my server box. I went to install the Windows Home Server Connector on my PC it says that it cannot run on 64 bit OS :(:(

I am running Windows Vista 64 bit.

Is there any way I can get this to work?

Any help, would be greatly appreciated! :)

Looks like I just need to download the Power Pack 1, BETA. Which is about 22.6Mbs. :)

Thanks, downloading it now to the WHS Box. :)

I downloaded and installed the PP1. When I run the CD again it gives same error message. :(

Do I need to download "Windows Home Server Home Computer Restore CD" ( Which is a big download :(" In order to install the WHS conectoer on my pc?

as marc says, it's RTM, download that, not the beta

personally i reckon WHS is a waste of space

Sorted it, thanks.

I have another issue. :(

I want to copy my music folder of around 70Gbs to the shared music folder on WHS. However it says not enough free space. :(

However when I check storage on the WHS it says 203GB free. ( I have an 80GB ( OS drive) and a 200GB ( Storage) in the WHS.

Any ideas what's going on?

Thank you!

Have you accidentally quota'd yourself or is quota'ing set up by default on WHS? Never used WHS, most of my experience server wise is on 2k3.

I doubt it. I haven't set up anything on it. It says I need 19Gbs of more space...I don't understand it :(

80gb drive = 20gb boot partition and 60gb "landing" partition that's used for storage in a single drive system and as a migration drive in a multidrive system.

IIRC, the simple explanation is that it doesn't have enough space on the "landing" partition to migrate 70gb to the actual storage drive. It sometimes happens I think.... copy in chunks if possible or try again.

Have a browse through some of the info at We Got Served for a more detailed (and likely a little more accurate) explanation, but I think I'm just about right.

I get the idea. So, what you're saying is that I need to copy the stuff in small bits, then it will, 'migrate' onto the other drives? ( I have just added another 160GB to the server, giving it a 400GB storage space. :))

Will have a look at the link provided.

Thank you. ;)

The recommended option would be to have a bigger primary drive.

Yep, that's pretty much the MS answer: get the biggest drive you can and make it your primary.

Personally, I installed to a single large drive and then added two additional drives to increase overall storage. Behaved a little better than installing all drives at once, although in theory it shouldn't have at the time (pre-PP1).

Now that PP1 is out, WHS is a no brainer for network storage (as well as everything else it offers) I reckon. Music, vids, Media Centre recorded TV location, websites, remote access etc, not to mention all the add-ons and tweaks you can do to it.

Well it's a bit late for that now. I will keep the 80GB has primary. I won't be sending a lot of stuff it it anyway.

Where can I find these add ons and tweeks you speak of? :p

I dunno i thought that but after giving it a bit of use its holding up well, it doesn't really have anything special ontop of windows apart from is special remote desktop fake connector. The only other thing i really do like is drive extender, and if this was a feature in any other linux OS or windows OS and was as easy to configure (as in no configuration) i'd probably switch, but as it stands theres no better aternative.

Hello all forgive me if this is a stupid question but I am looking to back up my media centre pc but I have two media drives one for music and one for video. I want WHS to back up those drives to its shared music and video libraries instead of backing them up to the general storage area. I would also like WHS to keep those folders syncrhonized and up to date. Is this possible and how do I do it??

Also one more question if a hardware manufacturer does not make a WHS native driver which other driver should I try first the xp, win2000 or vista drivers??
