Windows Home Server, very slow file transfers

I have a problem with a Windows Home Server machine, in that when writing to it from another networked machine, running either Vista X64 or X86 SP1 the transfer is very fast, around 70 MB/sec for around 95% of the file, and you see the items remaining in MB dropping swiftly, then with around 5% to go, it drops to a crawl, and will often give a 'not connected error'. If you leave it it will normally complete but this seems very strange. The WHS server is a little overspeced at a Q6600 on a 975 chipset board, Adaptec 21610SA raid controller in SATA mode and 10 x 750 GB Samsung drives and 4GB RAM. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
