Hi all,

I'm thinking of buying an HTPC, ready built, under 200 euros, for streaming netflix, amazon video & HBO.

I've signed up to all 3, am amazed at the amount of content available.

I've tried Roku, Chromecast, & an Android box, all fail me, a little, as I live in Spain, well it's part of Spain at the moment at least (despite shouting in the streets), & I don't want to use a VPN to disguise where I live for streaming.

The Roku seems to be fine if you live in the US or the UK, will do all 3, but won't access anything other than Netflix in Spain. The Chromecast does HBO & Netflix, but won't do Amazon video. The Android box will access Netflix & Amazon Video, but not HBO (not HBO ES). It looks like I could use Kodi (installed on the box already) to (illegally & at some security risk) access HBO, but I'm not interested in that.

On my Windows 10 gaming PC I can get all 3 running, just by going to HBO or Amazon Video in my browser, play whatever I'm interested in, connect to & display on my TV with an HDMI cable. It's a bit of a pain in the neck though, & I've now found & am interested in devices like the Kodlix AP42 or Beelink AP34.

Are they essentially used just as I would use my PC? (I'd need a wi-fi mini-keyboard ofc)

Has anyone any experience of them?

Is the quality any good on a 200 euro/175 pound device?

How do they compare to using a Roku/Android box? Is there any downside?

Currently I'm sending the Roku back & will be using the Chromecast for HBO, Android box for Netflix/Amazon, I'm a bit peeved that there's no single box/device which will run Netflix, Amazon & HBO, outside USA/UK.

Thanks.

No experience of those you've mentioned but i used to use an Acer Revo RL70 quite a few years ago and it worked well. Running windows 8.

You could try the Intel NUC or Apple Mini aswell, though may cost a little more.

Have you tried the Amazon Fire TV? I know that should get you Netflix and Amazon, not sure about HBO though.

You could try an Intel Compute Stick, the M3 version. I use for my projector, and whilst more like 300 euros, it is perfect for everything you describe above, and highly portable between screens etc.
