a friend of mine has asked me to ask you guys if you can recommend a method of doing the following:

he works for a small shop building systems

he wants to know if he bought a big, quick usb drive (like the one on offer today) whether he can partition it for a windows installation and use the rest for the drivers etc?

and if so, how can he go about it? :)

mods - i dont know the ins and outs really, if this is not allowed, i am very sorry and i will immediately remove the thread

Just Google, install Windows 7 to USB

we have both used this tool before, but i think that it uses the whole usb, where as my friend wants a large usb (much more than 4gb) and to install windows on a partition and use the rest for other stuff :)

Hmm, I don't see why not. Partition the disk using diskpart to be xGb. Install Windows, then you should still have the rest to play with

1) i dont think windows will let you partition a usb stick with 4gb + 28gb

2) that tool will let you do the install on the whole usb stick, not just a partition

that is why i made the thread - to know if anyone has a guide for doing this :)

Lexar USB format should let you partition your USB drive. Then try sticking an OS on one partition and see if it boots from it.
