Hi

Got an issue I never seen before

Basically I'm trying to install win 7 from a cd
Everytime it gets to expanding files it restarts and trys again

It doesn't even get past 0%

Im guessing it's a hardware issue?

Try different dvd drive and a fresh disc. Sounds as though the files are not copying accross to the ssd or hard drive - check cables etc. Try a different dvd drive or better still try installing from a usb pen drive(quicker install) Google it.

Hope this helps, but need more info really - specs of your machine etc.

i found the issue!

supposedly compatible ram!
i did not think a windows installation would fail due to this!

is this a known thing that a pc can boot but not install if ram is a problem?

i put the sticks in from my main rig which i did not think would work but it did!

Yes, it happened to me recently. Windows managed to install but not correctly, and then Windows Updates and drivers would often fail to install, coupled with random crashes even when idling. Swapped out the RAM and everything was fine. Was that what you did? (Edit: yeah that's what you did, just re-read your post more carefully).

While researching for a fix prior to identifying the issue, I did also read that dodgy RAM can prevent Windows from installing at all.

Like Wazza said, make sure XMP* is enabled properly anyway and that BIOS is latest version.

* Well, make sure your mobo supports the XMP speed, otherwise go for a speed which it supports.
