On my wife managed to give my laptop the plauge so I decided to format it nd start again.

It's a samsung sens x170. Ultra portable so no DVD drive. No problem so I make a bootable USB using MS's app and start installing blanking all the partitions first to make sure I clear the viri she managed to find.

Now the problem, the installer says after I partition the disk that "windows can not be installed to this drive as it may fail soon" was nothing wrong with the drive when I scanned it before the format so I'm guessing a driver issue. But nobody sells x170s outside Korea.

Anybody got any ideas? A way to check the hd from a bootable USB? A good source for drivers?

I've had a dell fail on installation time and again because it needed so strange dell hard drive controller driver that was model specific, so I'm thinking this maybe the problem

180 views and not one response.

Anyway after pulling the hard drive and testing it on another PC its showing as failing a SMART test so im going to try another hard drive. I have found the drivers in Korean as well so with abit of luck should be ok.

Whats wrong with the drive I have no idea, its 1 year old and apart from the virus never missed a beat. I tried turning smart off but its not having it so time to try a new drive out.
