Hi all,

I have a friends pc at the moment which wont boot it just hangs it will boot to CD and stuff but not to the hard drive. Now I have tried another hard drive in there and that’s fine so it’s defiantly the drive. Now If I have the original drive that wont boot in another machine as a slave I can see all the stuff on there,

Now I thought "right lets do a repair install of windows" so I boot from the windows CD and press enter on the first screen then F8 then you should get the option to repair but I don’t :S . I can install again keeping the same file system instead of formatting, is this the same?

It must be the boot sector that is bust, so if I format the drive, reinstall windows then restore the image will it restore the boot sector thus making that a waste of time?

Thanks all

The bit about keeping the same file system, should be the same as doing a repair installation. Also, you can rebuild the boot file if i remember correctly

*edit* oops my bad, you said boot sector  gotta love reading posts when im tired...
