I not sure if this has something to do with the MBR on the second drive but when i install windows it always installs on the second drive d:\

Ive got 3 hard drives in my machine with about 2 partitions on each.My main drives located on sata one...but for some reason it always installs windows on the second drive (sata two) making it d:\

Ive only noticed this from installing vista but now ive gone back to xp its somehow scew something on my second drive.

Is this something to do with the mbr?

Is it possible to say clear it from my second drive without formatting it...dont really fancy loosing all my stuff

Any ideas guys?

Thanks

Disconnect all your hard drives and only leave the one you want to install XP on connected. Then delete the partitions on it, make sure all the data you have on them is backed up then create your partition on the drive you want to install XP on to and it should come up a :C.

Yeah thats what ive been doing....disconnecting all the other drives

I'm using a DFI board...am i right in thinking the sata ports are labeled the wrong way round

I'm sure ive read that before

disconnect the card reader, the install is picking it up as a removable drive and giving that a drive letter first, aka C. Unplug that then install windows, plug it in once its all installed... job done ;)
